Tell Me Something Good

Dave Portnoy’s ‘Barstool Fund’ hits $20M, helping over 90 small businesses during pandemic

When I typed those words..that song is now in my head. So I thought I would stop venting as it gets me nowhere, and post something positive!!

Dave Portnoy was born in Massachusetts , and continued on to earn a degree in Education from University of Michigan. Later, he founded Barstool Sports. Barstool Sports is a digital media company that produces content focused on sports and pop-culture. As we all know, 2020 was filled with riots, death, disease and closing of major businesses.. big and small.

On Dec. 17, Portnoy, who also beat COVID, launched the fund for small businesses in need of a financial lifeline. Companies can apply via email for assistance with needs such as rent or tax payments, so long as they have continued to pay their employees throughout the pandemic. (which CNN refused to air his plea for small businesses). Figures anywhoo.

When asked by are reporter on what his company looks for before donating, it is as follows: “PORTNOY: So, basically, we solicit emails, we ask for people who need help to send an email, tell us a video, a story. There’s two requirements basically that we look for, A you were a successful business before the pandemic and B you still are paying your employees as best you can so we’re helping not only the business owner but the actual employees as well.”

The following headline made me smile :
